What happens if a developer does not provide <!DOCTYPE> tag in HTML document.?

tells the browser about the version of HTML which renders in a web page. If the developer does not provide the DOCTYPE information in the HTML document, then it will not support the new features and tags provided by the HTML5, like , etc. Also, browsers may automatically go into Strict or Quirks mode.
