1). Reach at least 15 minutes early for the interview

It’s better to reach little bit early to avoid any last -minute hassle. It is often observed that if we must give an interview as soon as reaching there, candidates tend to get panic, appear desperate as well as comfortable. This leaves a negative impression on the interviewer and we cannot even put our complete effort in the interview. So, to avoid any discomfort, make sure you reach the venue little bit early and make yourself well-groomed as well as comfortable to appear confidently in front of the interviewer.

2). Dress Appropriately. Say a big NO to Over Dressing

Clothing is the very first factor that creates a long-term impact on the interviewer. So, you should dress according to the company’s dress codes. The reason why we are saying this is that every organization follow their own dress codes. It will make yourself awkward, if you are wearing a suit and rest are casually dressed, so try to know what other employees’ dress code is. Sometimes, dressing sense depends on the post you are applying for. Like the business management firm prefers a formal attire, while an entertainment organisation prefers casual attire for its employees. You can ask the concerned person who scheduled an interview, or you can ask someone from the same firm.

Don’t overdress, keep it simple.

3). Be Polite to Everyone around you.

You can even be judged on how you talk or treat everyone around you. So talk politely to every person you come across. Be nice to everyone, be it a receptionist, security guards or any other staff. Your manager or interviewer will know if you misbehave or show any inappropriate behavior before even you meet him.

4). Follow every instruction

Carry all the documents you have been informed to bring along, dress according to instructions, reach on time, bringing a pencil/pen, filling any form before appearing, any pre-interview work and any other directions or instructions given by them. It shows how punctual you are.

5). Handshake properly. Don’t be fishy

Handshakes explain many things about you. Now, this is one of the most common mistakes many candidates do and been rejected because the same. There is always a way to behave with a different type of crowd. It is same as you don’t hug while meeting someone whom you don’t even know.

Make sure your grip while the handshake is firm, but not very tight or fishy, and do it just for a few seconds. Keep wearing a warm smile and an appropriate eye contact (not stare) to make it perfect way to start the interview.

6). Be Natural & Do your Part

Don’t sound artificial, or wear an artificial smile, you need to show that you are happy to be there for the interview, don’t use any false accent and follow a natural way of communication.

Doing your part means, you should know for which profile you are going to be interviewed, how many interviews rounds you must appear, how many people are going to interview, what are the names of interviewers, etc. This will help you to impress, be confident and avoid any hassle.

7). Keep a check on your manners.

The way to sit, talk and walk, shows a lot about your overall personality. You should know how you should sit for an interview, what kind of voice pitch you should maintain while talking, answering for permission before you enter the interview room, how to carry your resume, and complete body language. Sometimes if you are not well-behaved, you are misunderstood in the interview and then your all professional qualities can go waste.

The resume should be simple to understand, highlighting your all strengths and your work in a complete balanced work. Don’t carry a long resume which is hard to give an idea of what you are and don’t write false skills that you don’t have because an interviewer may pick any random point from your resume and start firing questions.

9). Begin with a well-honed Elevator Pitch.

Address the first question in a balanced way and a well-honed elevator pitch is perfect to start with. Don’t be loud, keep your pitch in such a way that you are clear and audible enough to the interviewer but not disturbing others in the room. It is applicable even if you are being interviewed alone. Don’t ramble because it can make you look nervous and when you are done with answering, stop talking. This fraction of silence should act like an indication that you are done with the answer.

10). Go with an intention to learn more about opportunities

Very few people understand its importance. When you enter for an interview with a mindset that you are open to learn more about the opportunities you are going to get in future, you tend to appear confident, and the job for which you are being interviewed seems to be perfectly made for you and you appear the interview with keen interest. This can create a positive impression about your wiliness to fulfill the required job roles and responsibilities.
