I got a call from +1 202 455 8888 although I didn’t try to login to gmail. Is this fine?

I have activated multi-factor validation for my gmail account. I need to give the OTP while logging in. But I received a call from this number and it gave a verification code. So, is there a risk with my account?

There can be two probabilities: A person possesses your password and is failing in 2FA while attempting to sign in. So change the password. He is attempting to register a fresh account to the current one but has included your contact number, rather than theirs. When someone calls from the number and says they are from Google, it’s a scam, since the caller ID spoofing is simple. Avoid disclosing to them anything. Had they been google, they would have known all the data beforehand. Also 2024558888 is surely Google’s number meant for different authentication purposes. At the beginning of the verification cycle, when someone sends a code and asks to resend the code by text, they are meaning to scam you. Do not share the code at all.
