I am employed as a solution architect and I am currently working with a client who is considering migrating their infrastructure to AWS. However, he is concerned about accurately estimation the cost of running their workloads in the Aws cloud. What are the differences between the AWS cost explorer and the AWS pricing calculator and how can both help the client in making decisions?

n the context of AWS, here is how you can define the difference between both:-

AWS cost explorer

AWS Cost Explorer is a service that can provide comprehensive insights about your AWS usage and spending

You can analyze your AWS spending patterns, identify the cost drivers, and forecast future costs.

This service would offer various built-in service reports such as cost and usage, RI coverage, and reserved Instance utilization to help you in optimizing your AWS spending.

AWS pricing calculator

The AWS pricing calculator is a web-based tool that can allow you to estimate the cost of using AWS service for your specific workloads or architecture.

You can select AWS services if you use this particular pricing calculator and can configure the Resources setting to generate a detailed cost estimate.

This tool can offer pricing information for individual AWS services, including compute, storage, networking database, and more.

You can also save and share cost estimates, and compare costs across different AWS regions.

You can use it During the planning and creating phase of your particular AWS infrastructure to estimate costs accurately so that you can make informed decisions.
